Leica has launched the Leica Lux Grip for iPhone. This new accessory aims to make the Leica Lux app feel more like using a dedicated camera. It gives the iPhone a DSLR-style grip. It also has programmable buttons, a two-stage shutter button, and a control dial.
The Leica Lux Grip costs $329. You can buy it at select Leica stores, the company’s online store, and other specialist retailers.
The price is high compared with other grips. Some cheaper options also offer image stabilization. However, the price may not seem as surprising when you consider Leica’s other products. The company sells $23,000 platinum-plated film cameras and $500 pencil sets.
The grip has a black aluminum body. It does not include Leica’s famous red dot. Instead, it attaches to an iPhone through MagSafe. It works with iPhone 12 and newer models. You can also use it in both vertical and horizontal positions.
The Leica Lux Grip Connects To Bluetooth
The grip connects to an iPhone through Bluetooth. However, you need Leica’s mobile photography software to use all of its features.
The app copies the look and feel of Leica lenses and classic camera equipment. The app is free to download. However, you need a subscription to access all its features. The plan costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Fortunately, Leica includes a free one-year subscription with the grip. This helps reduce some of the cost for new users.
According to Leica, the grip has a 300mAh battery. It can last for up to 1,000 photos. You can recharge it through USB-C in about two hours.
However, the grip only powers itself. For example, Belkin’s Stage PowerGrip, which debuted at CES 2025, has a 10,000mAh battery. It can also charge a connected phone. Belkin’s grip costs $149.95, which is less than half the price of Leica’s model.
A Leather Case For Secure Storage
Leica also sells a $60 leather case for the grip. It includes a small pocket for an AirTag.
The case uses high-quality cowhide leather and soft interior padding. It also has an embossed Leica logo on the flap. A magnetic fastener makes the case easy to open. Inside, you will also find spaces for charging accessories.
Designed For Better Photos
The grip has a two-stage shutter button. A light press focuses the camera. A full press takes the photo.
There is also a button for quickly changing shooting settings. In addition, the app lets users assign and customize two more controls.
By default, the button provides quick access to common features. Meanwhile, the control dial lets you adjust camera settings. These include zoom, aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation.
The Leica Lux Grip puts key camera controls in your hands. This makes it easier to control your shots while using an iPhone.
When you upgrade to a new iPhone, you can keep the grip. You only need to replace the MagSafe base plate.
The app also recreates the look and color style of famous Leica lenses. These include the Summilux-M and Noctilux-M styles. You can also choose from several Leica looks. Options range from bright colors to classic black and white.
Each registered grip also includes a free one-year subscription to the app’s Pro version.
