ChatGPT Pro Now Available with Unlimited Access to GPT-4o

ChatGPT Pro OpenAI

OpenAI’s main chatbot, ChatGPT Pro, is now available for $200 per month. Today marks the first of many announcements the San Francisco startup plans to release over the next 12 days.

This pricing range covers everything from OpenAI’s $20 monthly subscription to much greater access to the GPT-4o and o1 AI models. A ChatGPT Pro subscription costs $2,400 for a full year. It also gives users access to a special OpenAI model called o1 pro mode, which has more processing power.

ChatGPT Pro for Power Users

CEO and ChatGPT founder Sam Altman spoke about the new premium tier during the video broadcast. He said that “power users of ChatGPT, at this point, really use it a lot, and they want more compute than $20 can buy.”

The high price may surprise many customers. However, the plan targets researchers who use ChatGPT for difficult and time-consuming work. It also targets highly active users who want almost unlimited access.

ChatGPT Free and Plus Plans

The free option is still available. OpenAI has not announced any changes to the prices of its other membership tiers.

In February of last year, the company’s consumer chatbot, ChatGPT Plus, launched as its first subscription option. It currently costs $20 per month.

ChatGPT Plus users can access most of ChatGPT’s new features and generative AI models. OpenAI also gives Plus subscribers higher limits than free users.

The number of requests customers can make each day depends on their subscription tier. The amount of time they can spend using ChatGPT’s best voice interface also depends on their plan.

Who Is ChatGPT Pro For?

People who use OpenAI’s generative AI models for complex tasks are the target audience for the new $200 monthly subscription.

During the video stream, OpenAI research scientist Jason Wei said, “People will find O1 Pro mode the most useful for hard math, science, or programming problems.”

I’m excited to test the tool and help readers better understand its strengths and limits. This includes comparing it with our previous work on ChatGPT Plus. We also want to look at features such as Advanced Voice Mode and AI web browsing.

However, WIRED has not yet tested a ChatGPT Pro subscription firsthand. The publication has not yet tested how the service handles these types of requests.

ChatGPT Pro Terms and Usage Rules

OpenAI makes it clear that its terms of use still apply to ChatGPT Pro members. This includes users who have “unlimited access” to the O1 model, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice Mode.

Users cannot use the Pro plan to power their own service. They also cannot share an account with other people. Breaking these rules could result in an account ban.

Users can contact OpenAI’s online help center if they want a refund. The company allows refund requests during the first two weeks after purchase.

OpenAI Launches the O1 Model

OpenAI also announced that the O1 model is no longer in limited preview. The company launched the model alongside ChatGPT Pro.

O1 focuses on “reasoning” abilities and multi-step processing of user input. OpenAI says the fully launched O1 model makes fewer mistakes and responds to questions faster.

The model can also accept images as inputs. In the future, OpenAI plans to add file uploads and web browsing to ChatGPT’s O1 setting.

More AI Features Are Coming

As the year comes to an end, OpenAI plans to release more new AI features.

The Verge reports that these year-end releases could include OpenAI’s highly anticipated generative AI video model, Sora.

Some of the upcoming announcements may also provide more information about Sam Altman’s views on AI agents. These tools could help users complete tasks online.

The announcements may also give more information about the company’s priorities for 2025.
