Filipino Inventions Recognised Internationally in 2024

Filipino Inventions

For the scientific and technological community, 2024 got off to a strong start. These creative Filipino Inventions highlight the country’s continuous technological progress. Young Filipinos have contributed to a variety of inventive fields. Their work can inspire pride among fellow Filipinos.

Three Filipino ideas and technologies supported by DOST sparked global creativity from July 9–11, 2024. They won gold at the WorldInvent Singapore (WoSG) 2024. WoSG is an international invention show organized by the Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Association (IDEA). It highlights creative answers to urgent global issues.

Additionally, WoSG provides a forum for cooperation and connections with scholars, entrepreneurs, inventors, and innovators. These were the inventions:

Smart Waters via HIMO from Hiraya Tech

After winning the gold prize, the Best ASEAN prize, and the Thailand Award for the Best Worldwide Invention and Innovation from the National Research Council of Thailand, the Hiraya Intelligent Modular Optimization caused a stir at the worldwide invention show.

By collecting real-time data to regulate operations, this water management system uses artificial intelligence (AI) and smart technologies. It helps water facilities lower non-revenue water losses, reduce power usage, and improve service levels.

Engineers Stephen Larcia, Jan Russell Diolata, and Jam Benneth Wong from Hiraya Technology Solutions Inc. created the system. It combines data analytics and artificial intelligence for water resource management.

Cleaner Energy Using CharM from CHRG EV Technologies

CHRG EV Technologies’ Charging in Minutes, or CharM, is the second domestic invention and technology to win a gold award. It also won a Thailand Award for the Best International Invention and Innovation from the National Research Council of Thailand.

CharM presents a faster, more cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method of supplying electricity to electric cars.

The charging system was developed under the direction of engineer Leo Allen Tayo of CHRG EV Technologies. It shortened the traditional charging time from 4–6 hours to roughly 30 minutes.

By combining high efficiency with renewable energy, CharM promotes sustainability in the transportation sector. It also helps Singapore achieve its emission reduction targets.

Prepare for Earthquakes with Tekton Geometrix’s QBX-SMA

Additionally, the QBX-Strong Motion Accelerograph promotes a culture of preparedness. It won a special prize and a gold award from the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA).

This seismic monitoring tool consists of 70% recyclable materials. It contributes to building safety by offering accessible, data-driven solutions for reliable early warnings, informed decision-making, and code compliance.

Tekton Geometrix engineers Rodolfo Alfonso Sabio, Mark Linus Ramos, and Emmanuel Ramos developed the invention. The QBX-SMA measures intense earthquake shaking using its Android touch interface. This enables people to make informed decisions before, during, and after seismic events.

Other Filipino Inventions Recognized Globally

1. Silyang Pinoy: A Filipino Innovation Improving Resilience to Disasters

Silyang Pinoy is an educational invention for classroom use. It can serve as both a chair and a bed frame. The Department of Science and Technology’s Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) developed the idea in the Philippines.

The invention addresses the issue of inadequate evacuation facilities in classrooms. It is also a strong example of Filipino creativity and commitment to using innovation to solve practical problems.

2. Make-Roscope: Increasing the Accessibility and Affordability of Science Labs

Inventor De Leon, who has a knack for solving problems and is dedicated to democratising science education, invented the Make-roscope.

The Make-roscope is a portable microscope that works with smartphones. It is transforming science instruction for both educators and learners.

Conclusion

The Filipino Inventions mentioned above represent only a few of the recognitions that local inventors have received from different awarding bodies through international invention awards.

These achievements demonstrate how Filipino inventors continue to develop creative solutions in areas such as water management, renewable energy, disaster preparedness, education, and science.
