AI-generated video call backdrops, HD video calling, noise reduction, and hands-free messaging via Siri are some of the new features. The changes address the increasing need for improved digital communication tools among users.
Messenger Features and Uses
Meta described the new features coming to Messenger in a blog post. Users may now make higher-quality calls thanks to the introduction of HD video calls. Users can set the function off when using cellular data, but it will automatically activate when making calls over Wi-Fi. To enhance voice clarity and lessen ambient noise, Meta also offers voice isolation and background noise cancellation. By going to Messenger’s call options, you can turn on both functionalities. AI Backgrounds Improve Video Conversations
Meta is now offering AI-generated backgrounds for Messenger video chats, in addition to the chat themes it revealed earlier this year. With the help of the new function, users will be able to use original AI-generated images as video call backgrounds.
Users can choose “Backgrounds” by tapping the effects button in the call sidebar to activate AI backgrounds. Meta suggests that users can use this addition to enhance originality or express mood in virtual interactions.
HD video and noise reduction contribute to enhanced call quality
Messenger is implementing improved noise reduction and HD video calling features in response to user demand for higher-quality calls. When making calls over WiFi, Messenger automatically activates HD video. The “Mobile Data for HD Video” option in call settings allows users on cellular networks to enable HD video.
To reduce background noise and guarantee crisper audio during calls, we created the new voice isolation and noise suppression capabilities. Through Messenger’s call options, you can access both tools.

Voice messaging via audio and video
In an effort to expand its features, Meta integrated audio and video voice messaging into Messenger. In order to maintain communication even in situations where the recipient is unavailable, users can now leave recorded messages for unanswered calls.
When a call goes unanswered, users can hit the “Record message” button to leave a message. Both audio and video calls can use the capability.
Features Without Using Your Hands Siri-powered
With Meta’s integration of Siri into Messenger, users will be able to utilize voice commands to make calls or send messages. When consumers are unable to physically use their gadgets, this hands-free functionality offers a useful solution.
With voice control, users may dictate messages or make calls with commands like “Hey Siri, send a message to [contact name] on Messenger.”
Apps like Google Meet, Zoom, and FaceTime have already incorporated these functions—in some cases, for years. AI-generated backgrounds are no different, at least for Zoom and Meet. Additionally, both iOS and Android mobile phone apps include the new messenger features. With these extra mobile features, Messenger can compete more effectively with other platforms.
