Before CES 2025, Nvidia RTX 5090 Leaks Show a Huge VRAM Boost

gaming PC

Acer may have inadvertently disclosed details about Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs before their scheduled CES 2025 announcement. Leaks found on Acer’s Predator Orion 7000 gaming PC spec sheets show significant VRAM increases for Nvidia’s flagship GPUs. This demonstrates a clear improvement in gaming hardware capabilities.

RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 VRAM for Gaming PC

The current-generation RTX 4090 has 24GB of VRAM, while the RTX 5090 will have an incredible 32GB. The RTX 5080 appears to maintain the 16GB VRAM capacity of the RTX 4080.

This is a game-changer because a consumer gaming GPU with 32GB of VRAM could transform high-end gaming performance. It could also prepare the RTX 5090 for demanding modern titles.

Gaming PC Specifications and RTX 50-Series

The leaked specifications came from VideoCardz, which discovered the new Predator Orion PCs on Acer’s website. Both PCs are rumored to have an Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF CPU and Nvidia’s RTX 50-series GPUs. This makes them strong contenders for top gaming PC designs in 2025.

The most striking feature of the RTX 5090 is its VRAM. However, the accompanying upgrade to GDDR7 memory technology also promises much greater performance. It could offer a significant improvement over the GDDR6X memory found in the 40-series.

Why Does the RTX 5090 Have 32GB of VRAM?

The move to 32GB of VRAM came in response to mounting criticism of Nvidia’s reduced VRAM allocations in recent years. Recent games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle suffer from notable performance drops due to insufficient VRAM. This issue has led to criticism of cards with 8GB or less.

As games require more VRAM, the RTX 5090 sets a new standard. This increase might also inspire developers to create even more ambitious graphics and performance.

RTX 5090 vs. Intel Arc B580

This is particularly important when considering competitors like Intel’s Arc B580 GPU. It offers 12GB of VRAM and retails at a fair $249.99.

Even Nvidia’s lower-tier GPUs, like the RTX 4060, still have 8GB of VRAM. The RTX 5090’s considerable jump could force the company to reevaluate its VRAM strategy in general.

What to Expect From the RTX 5080

The RTX 5080, in contrast, seems to prioritize GPU power over VRAM capacity. It has the same 16GB allocation as its predecessor. However, performance benefits are likely to come from better GPU efficiency and architectural advancements rather than a memory increase.

This strategy positions the RTX 5080 as a suitable mid-tier option for gamers who do not require the top-tier power of the 5090.

32GB VRAM for Consumer Gaming GPUs

While 32GB of VRAM is a first for consumer-grade GPUs, Nvidia’s workstation and AI-focused cards already offer up to 48GB. However, Nvidia designed these cards for purposes like 3D modeling and AI training rather than gaming.

Nvidia is showcasing its commitment to advancing gaming technology by packing as much VRAM as possible into a consumer gaming card.

Gaming PC Technology at CES 2025

At the company’s presentation, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is expected to unveil the full RTX 50-series lineup. This makes CES 2025 a major gaming PC event.

At the same time, new gaming laptops and competing AMD and Intel technology will most likely be unveiled. With the notable development of the RTX 5090 and the powerful performance of the RTX 5080, Nvidia is setting the stage for an exciting year in gaming.
